This'll be my last post for the day. I figure I've caught you up on our lives enough after this, my 5th post of the day.
Nick had his first doctor's appointment on Thursday. We were pretty antsy to have one as we'd had a hectic couple of days since our folks had left on Sunday. Nick wasn't eating very much and was sleeping a ton (which initially I thought was a good thing...turns out it's not). His BM's (that's bowel movements for all you non-parents or non-pop culture people like I was before I became a dad) and wet diapers were few and far between. We called the triage nurse on Monday and she said most of those problems would go away if we increased his feedings to once every two hours. At first we were like, "Holy moley, that's a lot of waking him up out of a dead sleep and him crying like a banshee on fire," but then we realized it would probably work since we both aren't nurses. Anyway, we tried it and went to the doctor after feeding Nick every two hours for the past three days. Our doc was awesome. His name is Dr. Brennan and was recommended to us by a couple of guys at my work whose kids see him. He was extremely personable, not corny like I thought a pediatrician would be (kind of a Patch Adams image in my head for some reason), and stressed the fact that we could visit any pediatrician in our group for any visit if we wanted but that he would rather we see him each time so he could get to know us and us him. We were all about that. So he weighed Nick and he came in at exactly 6 lbs, he had lost a whole pound since birth and 10 oz since being released from Cottage. Not good. But, the doc said if he had seen us on Monday at the height of Nick not eating, pooping, peeing, or sleeping regularly, and apparently, right in the heart of when jaundice can be the worst, he probably would have admitted Nick for a while and pumped him full of fluids and formula, however it seemed, according to the rigorous journals Katy had kept on her feedings of Nick and all his diapers, that he was on the up and up. So, if you ever have a kid, its not always a great thing if he's sleeping almost all the way through the night within the first week. Note that. Here's Nick looking rather yellow, the stuff the doc used, and sitting in his carrier very patiently next to a painting of Disney characters.
After the doctor's appointment, Nick got his first trip to Costco! Very exciting and his parents spent less than $100! Always an accomplishment at the store of temptation.
Nick and his monkey towel (modeled after his 2nd cousin Caleb to his dad's dismay). It may look like he's holding it, but trust me, this is not candid and it was stuffed next to him.
Right in the middle of a sneeze. Good timing.
Katy and Nick in his Baby Bjorn out front. Can you believe she just gave birth? Amazing.
You can just see Nick's head in between the Baby Bjorn clasps. And Katy looking ravishing.
