Blue Room

After much thought and pondering we finally made a decision about what the baby's room should look like. So like any American does when he or she starts a project, we drove to The Home Depot and got blue #540 and some primer. Rob then tells me that instead of sanding and restaining the crib he would just like to buy some paint that would match the changing table. So, for the second time we got in the car and drove to The Home Depot where we were able to match the color of the changing table. After wandering the isles until the store was about to close, Rob was happy and we were able to make our purchases and come home. 8 hours of hard labor later, our son has a blue room and the crib is well on its way to looking like it belongs in the room. Here are some pictures of the painting process, obviously completion of the nursery will be posted as well:

New Elements of Tidbits

We just added two new elements to our blog page. The first is a subscription link. If you use some kind of blog updated, like Google Reader, you can click on the link to automatically add it to your updater. Also, instead of just a generic list of the blogs we read of our friends and family, blogger added a new element that displays which ones are updated, in a more convenient and professional way to view them. Granted, the list is only if you don't already use some sort of updater. I highly recommend Google Reader, pretty easy to use and way more convenient than clicking on a hundred blogs to see which ones are updated and which ones aren't. Rob's blog will have the same elements added to his.

2nd and final shower

Here's a slideshow of Katy's 2nd baby shower in Fresno last weekend...there are a lot of pictures, I know, so hopefully Katy will pull out a couple and edit this later so you can get the gist.

New Camera and Hearst Castle

Ever since Katy got pregnant we've been saying that we should get a really nice camera. Well last month, the Nikon's at Costco went on sale and we splurged a little bit. That's probably why we've been posting slideshows as of late, too many pictures to post, and we don't want to waste your time. My parents came up last week and we made a day trip to Hearst Castle. My parents and I had never been but Katy had, nonetheless it made for a fun trip and some cool pictures. Click here to see the whole the whole album and below are a couple of my favorites:

The family around the pool

I like the focus on the oranges in the foreground with the pool columns in the back

And a ridiculously enormous pool.

Some swans guarding the bottom of a lamp post with the pool in the back.

Mr. Hearst's private estate on the "ranch"

This is supposed to be a wooly covered man guarding the front door to Mr. Hearst's private estate. My mom thought he and I had comparable hair volumes

The dining room ceiling complete with an imported hand carved ceiling

And finally, our last stop on the tour, a 1.5 million dollar indoor pool with hand laid mosaic tiles and 24 karat gold leafing

Mission Walking

Today we were trying to think of something to do that wouldn't cost a lot of money. We know that we are privileged to live on the central coast and so near to a ton of cool things, and we know we don't take near enough advantage of that. So somehow we came up with the idea that it would be really cool (and dorky) to say we've seen all the missions of California. Little did we know (it's been a long time since 4th grade) that there are 21 of them in California, from San Diego to north of Frisco. Fortunately, there are 3 of them within a half hour drive, Mission Santa Barbara, Mission Santa Ines, and La Purisima Concepcion. We decided to only go to the latter two today since we always go into Santa Barbara and have been to the mission there before. That's what all these crazy pictures are about. Hopefully you can figure out which mission is which since I did put an abbreviation before each, but you never know.
